FilaOne™ GRAY High Performance Composite Filament

The LIGHTEST engineering grade filament available!

Prints solid to 0.86 grams/cubic cm: nearly half the weight of carbon fiber reinforced plastics

Extremely STRONG and Resilient!

Advanced Carbon Nanotube Technology makes this true "engineering grade" composite useful for drones to boats to cart parts.... and much more!

See How Tough and Resilient FilaOne™ GRAY really is:

Flexural modulus (stiffness) is 50% higher than ABS; similar to Polycarbonate.

Minimal crazing or cracking when bent under heavy loads.

Unlike most stiff materials that tend to be brittle, FilaOne GRAY is quite resilient.

Absorbs energy without permanent deformation.

Water repellant, UV resistant, acid and salt water resistant.

Ideal for outdoor, marine and aviation applications: drone landing gear, living hinges, and much more.

Prints at 225º C with no toxic chemical out-gassing and no nozzle jamming.

Ultra-light weight: 21% lighter than polycarbonate, yet less likely to crack or craze under pressure.

Delivers the highest "strength-to-weight ratio" in the industry. Holds 1,000 times its own weight!

Ideal material for printing "living hinges" and bendable parts too.

TECHNICAL OVERVIEW
FilaOne™ GRAY is a proprietary, composite material formulated for high mechanical performance, resilience, water and chemical resistance and for safe & easy printing of parts on desktop FDM printers.

A true “engineering grade” material, it offers a unique combination of processing, mechanical and chemical attributes. It provides a “high strength-to-weight ratio” compared with other engineering grade materials.

FilaOne™ GRAY is prints more easily than Polycarbonate, Nylon or ABS and is more resilient. It does not stick to nozzles.

KEY ATTRIBUTES
 • Ultra Light Weight: 0.86 grams/cubic cm parts when printed at 100% infill.
 • Flexural Strength: 48% stronger than ABS.
 • Resilient: bends but recovers with minimal crazing.
 • Hydrophobic: not affected by humidity; repels water; resists salt water.
 • Strong chemical resistance to:
Acids: dilute sulphuric acid, phosphoric, citric, boric, benzoic, and acetic acid.
Bases: caustic soda, potassium hydroxide, aqua ammonia, basic, acid and neutral salts.
Solvents: acetone, ethyl alcohol, aniline, phenol.
Gases: dilute chlorine, hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide.

PROPRIETARY CARBON NANOTUBE TECHNOLOGY

FilaOne™ GRAY contains a proprietary type of carbon nanotubes that have been highly dispersed throughout the filament to re-enforce the integrity of the material.
These nanotubes act like microscopic rebars to provide strength and resilience to the composite.

When other materials crack or break, FilaOne™ GRAY stretches and deforms (see test results below).

MECHANICAL PERFORMANCE

FilaOne GRAY outperforms ABS in flexural strength and modulus:
Flexural Modulus: 217,411 PS
Chord Modulus: 220,602 PSI

Test Method:
ASTM 790-02 using test bars printed at 100% infill, printed along the X-Y axis of the test bar (parallel with long dimension, wide side down).

FilaOne GRAY compares favorably with ABS in tensile strength.

Tensile Strength Test of FilaOne GRAY:

Yield (PSI)Yield (%)Break (PSI)Break (%)
8,373 0.54%! 641,848! 22.86%

Test Method:
ASTM 638-02A using test bars printed at 100% infill, printed along the X-Y axis of the test bar (parallel with long dimension, wide side down).

Note: ASTM test methods specify molded test bars or bars cut from plastic sheet. There are no

ASTM specifications for 3D printing test bars. Research by a variety of third parties indicates that the printing strategy and infill pattern used may have significant impact on mechanical properties.

Care should be taken when comparing these values with third party tests. For example, Stratasys ASTM testing utilizes a different print strategy that may tend to improve test values.

We have selected the “worst case” printing strategy of printing along the X-Y axis. In general,
printed test bars will perform to a lesser degree than injection molded test bars.

Some factors include: print orientation, number of outer layers, layer height, infill pattern, percent infill, and print speed.

Avante continues to research these factors to identify optimal printing methods.
